It's no secret that where our food is grown plays a huge role in how tasty it becomes.
We count ourselves as people who care about whole ecosystem on their farms, our intention is to promote the wellbeing of the people around us, the creatures dwelling here & nourish the land we have the privilege of living on.
Our chickens have their A frames houses set in idyllic leafy olive & fruit tree groves. They often wander the paddocks, ponds, macadamia and olive groves to make sure they're filling up on the good stuff throughout the week.
We are creating an environment that will make everything thrive on the farm
- from the tiniest seed to the tallest tree.
Each creature on the farm contributes to the Eco structure.
At Kaimua Farm our Orpington hens are sourced from some of New Zealand's finest breeding stock.
We started with Shavers (The Girls) & a Rhode Island Red x Shaver Rooster (Ash) and then moved on to our free range breeding program with three breeds of dual purpose (egg laying & meat birds) Heritage chickens to take care of our property.
Our Orpington's are Buff, Black/ Blue chickens they have the softest feathers and are the friendliest of our flocks, easy to handle and gentle. They start laying large brown eggs at around 6 months old. Orpington's are known as excellent mothers who take care of their chicks extremely well. They lay well well through winter and will lay 175 -200 eggs per year. They can grow up to 4.5kg.
We allow our Orpington's to breed naturally and sell eggs locally.
